Turning Heads in Whistler
This summer we were able to spend three sick weeks in Whistler riding at the Bike Park. Both Toby and Rory moved up into new race categories and became the youngest in their groups. Toby was especially stoked as although he is 12, his birthday is December 27th which meant he could race in the 13-15 year youth category for Crankworx. He made Top 10 finishes in Garbanzo and the Air DH and he came twelfth in the Canadian Open. All excellent results for his first time in this category.
Rory moved up into the 10-12 year category and finished an incredible 6th place in the Invitational Air DH race. The new carbon MeekBoyz bikes showed their added value and were turning heads wherever the boys went. Toby was stoked to be stopped on the roadside by Gee Atherton and be told he has “a sick bike and I wish I had one of those when I was your age!”
Steve and the boys had a super-sick Looseriders heli-ride with Nico Vink on Rainbow Mountain one day. All in all, it was an unreal summer riding vacation that also included a pre-stop at the World BMX Champs in North Carolina, USA. The Americans came out guns blazing and stole the show in most age categories. A great event to be part of. Rory got knocked out in the quarter finals and Toby in the 1/16s. The road trip north and south from New York City also was a travel highlight. Catching up with Clay Harper and his family, the god-family of the US Open of MTB was another memorable highlight.
